Room #508
In December, 2006, Todd Johnson was in the West Dining Room when a guest approached him complaining that a maid had turned down his bed the previous two evenings while he was in the shower. When Todd informed the man that the Tioga did not have a maid that came in and turned down beds, he replied “That’s what I was afraid of.” His friend who was visiting with him slapped him on the back saying, “See I told you so!”
Two separate instances of a guest’s bed mysteriously being turned down occurred in January, 2007 and March, 2007, even though neither of them knew about the possibility of that happening.
According to Jerry McMillan, an elderly woman lived in #508 back in the 1990’s. She was well-known and publically professed her love for the Tioga and her desire to never leave. She passed away in her apartment, and the funeral home made an effort to take her body away in a late-model hearse parked on the East side of the hotel. However, when the driver attempted to start the car, it refused to start. Finally after several attempts, another hearse arrived to take her body away and the original hearse was towed to the shop. Is our Lady of #508 attempting to make hotel guests comfortable in the Tioga?
