We're local with many local ties. We're proud the Tioga Suites Hotel has become the center of community activities, just as it was years ago.

Todd Johnson grew up on a farm south of Erie, Kansas. He graduated from Erie High
School in 1986. At the age of 16 he became the youngest Pioneer Seed Representative
in company history and earned the FFA District Star Agri-businessman Award.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the Business Option of Agronomy at Kansas
State University in 1990. While at K-State, he served as Student Senate Chairman and
then Student Body President, the only student to have ever served in both capacities.
Under his leadership, the $10 Student Athletic Fee was initiated which funneled more
than $400,000 annually to the University’s then-dismal football program. He initiated
and chaired the Peters Rec Complex Expansion Committee which oversaw the design
of and campaign for the $6.3 million, 77,000 sq ft addition.
He also initiated and chaired the “Essential Priority” campaign which lead to a
$28,000,000 renovation to KSU’s library. He spoke at the Library’s dedication and his
name is on a brass plaque near the library’s entrance.
During the summer of 1990, he was an intern for Senator Bob Dole at the Republican
Leader's Office in the Capitol building.
After graduating from K-State in December, 1990, he began working as a loan officer
trainee at Bank of Commerce in Chanute. He was transferred to the Bank of Parsons
when it opened in July of that year. From September, 1992, to March, 2005, he was
Executive Vice President of Peoples State Bank in Cherryvale, Kansas. He was also
on that bank’s Board of Directors.
He volunteered as the Cherryvale Chamber of Commerce secretary in 1995 and served
in that capacity until 2002. He is also a past president of the Cherryvale Rotary Club.
Realizing the need for a motel in Cherryvale, he purchased the old Park Motel property
in January, 2003. After a complete renovation that included new roofing, plumbing,
insulation, wiring, fixtures, furniture, appliances, and 5 new kitchens, the new Big Hill
Lodge was opened in May, 2003. Even though it has a hunting and fishing design
concept, it has become a popular place for all types of travelers. The website may be
viewed at www.BigHillLodge.com.
Todd has three children, Garrett, 14; Jenna, 11; and Lauren, 9.
